Case Study 2: Sheffield City Council Acrylic Fountains
As part of a Sheffield City refurbishment scheme, we were asked to structurally bond eight massive acrylic beams 5400mm long and 150mm thick to build a set of twin fountains, in the town hall square. The acrylic for each fountain weighed in at 2.4 tons.
Working on site along side their own building team the beams were carefully constructed where the emphasis was creating perfectly clear polished joins, and perfect alignment.
Our special resins and technique produced perfect massive structural joints, completely clear of air bubbles or inclusions.
Each beam was meticulously measured and positioned before bonding and the finished fountains were perfectly aligned and exactly as per the design blueprints.
This project emphasised Alternative Plastics high attention to detail and pride in always supplying the highest quality results we can.
The finished fountains appear as infinity pools when the water is still, however, they come alive when the fountains are switched on and appear magical at night when LED lighting is used to great effect.
Last month we helped one of our customers with a project to build a submarine sphere. Our customer had cast the acrylic sphere in two halves but asked us to structurally bond the two halves together.More...
